The Seasons

The Seasons Bed and Breakfast is located in the completely remodeled Ollis-Plumado house in historic Placerville, the heart of the California Gold Country. The house was built in 1859 and is one of the city's oldest. Situated on a beautifully landscaped 3/4 acre lot, just one block from Placerville's Main Street, the Ollis-Plumado house was built around 1859 on property that once held a gold stamp mill. The original owner, A. Vedder, sold it in 1862 to Henry Ollis for $100. Mr. Ollis at one time employed John Studebaker before he began making wagons and later automobiles. In 1874, the house was sold to the Plumado family for $600 in gold. The foundation of the house is built on old tombstones that had mistakes and could not be used for their original purpose. All the bricks in the house were handmade in Placerville, and the placerite stone was cut by hammer and chisel.
The Seasons is filled with original art and unusual antiques from around the world. An award for Historic Preservation was presented to The Seasons by the El Dorado County Chamber of Commerce. The Seasons is named for a series of paintings by artist and former owner Ann Gladwill which depict life in El Dorado County at different times of the year. There are four elegant rooms for rent, including two separate cottages, all with spectacular views of the garden.
