Downieville Museum - Hwy 49 - Open Memorial
Day to first weekend in October The building dates
back to 1852 when it was built as a store by
Chinese emigrants.
Foundry Museum - Pearl St. - Conducted tours only.
Tours by reservation: 530-289-3261 The building was
built in 1855. Featuring a detailed model of
turn-of-the-century Downieville as well as logging
and mining exhibits
ALLEGHANY
Alleghany Mining Museum - Underground tours:
530-287-3330 Exhibits include a working 3-D mine
model, video footage of underground operations.
FOREST

Not only does Forest City have a museum, it is a
museum. Buildings dating from 1800's .

The Kentucky Mine, Stampmill and Museum ,
East on Hwy. 49 Tours and hours: Sierra County
Historical Society - 530-862-1310 Guided tours into
the underground mine also into California's only
remaining workable
gold ore stamp mill. Features local American Indian
culture.
LOYALTON
The Loyalton Museum - located in the city
park - 530-993-6754
This historic building features displays on
logging, agriculture, the Washoe
Indians and fraternal
organizations including the Rebekah Lodge.

The Masonic Hall, built in 1864, is the
oldest building in town.

The newly renovated Busch and Heringlake Country
Inn typifies 1870's
Federalist Style
architecture. The brick two-story structure was
historically used as a
mercantile store and
Wells Fargo Express and Company stage coach stop in
the 1870's
LOYALTON
The Brick Store was built around the turn of
the century. This building, and
the grocery store in
Sierraville, are two of the few remaining buildings
constructed of Sierra
Valley Brick.
CALPINE
The Sierra Valley Lodge was built as a
recreation hall for the once thriving mill
town.
